The CA Foundation Course is the first stage in becoming a Chartered Accountant. The CA Foundation exams are held twice a year, in May and November, by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). A student who wants to become a CA can register for the ICAI Foundation course during or after class 12th based on the eligibility criteria. They must, however, complete their class 12th with at least a 50%. Accounting, business laws, mathematics, and economics will now be covered in the CA Foundation course syllabus. Students who have passed their class 12 examinations mandated by law or recognized by the Central Government are eligible to apply for the CA Foundation. However, due to the delay in the declaration of Class 12th Central and State Boards Results, ICAI has modified the eligibility criteria and permitted provisional registration for students who have not passed their 12th Exams. After passing the Class 10th examinations, students can now pre-register for the CA Foundation course. It is also stated that this preliminary admission will be modulated or regularised only after the candidate has passed the Class 12th exams. Graduates and Post-Graduates interested in pursuing CA can register for the CA Intermediate exam directly through the Direct Entry System. This means they are exempt from taking the CA Foundation Exam.
